At ENSO Group, we have implemented various measures to minimize the impacts of COVID on our operations. Do you want to know what they are?

Since the beginning of the pandemic, numerous measures have been adopted at an organizational level to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on our operations and to ensure, as much as possible, that workplaces remain safe environments.

At office level, in addition to temperature checks, hand sanitizer dispensers, reduced occupancy, and increased cleaning, mask-wearing in common areas was made mandatory, and in practice, in-person meetings have been eliminated, being mostly held via videoconference. Likewise, staff have been avoided having to eat outside the home due to the associated risk of contagion; employees are allowed to go home for lunch and continue teleworking for the rest of the day. The software implemented in 2020 has been successful in facilitating teleworking and online collaboration. Undoubtedly, these measures have been effective to date: with two externally contracted infections, no internal transmission has occurred.

At our power plants, where ENSO O&M and MAGESTOP operate, in addition to the general measures above, additional measures adapted to the type of operation and role have been implemented. For example, contact in changing rooms has been minimized and shifts are isolated from each other so that in case of infection, it is contained and does not spread to the rest of the staff. Among other things, ENSO O&M has established shared work logs and inspection routes on a server accessible to all, avoiding physical contact and exchange. So far, this has worked, and the entire workforce was not infected during a recent outbreak at one of the plants we operate in Portugal, which affected four people.

Additionally, masks with the ENSO logo were distributed to all employees to allow identification when working at other facilities, and special response plans were established for risks in the supply chain (including biomass, spare parts, and PPE), with no operational incidents reported.

That the measures are working reasonably well does not mean we should lower our guard; it is especially important to continue maintaining social distancing, hygiene, and proper and continuous use of masks. Only in this way can we navigate these difficult times in the best possible conditions.
